Exhibitions:
The Hall of
Fame/Museum maintains permanent exhibits depicting the past and present of
the sport. Special displays include the first pair of water skis, dating
back to 1922, worn by the "Father of Water Skiing", Ralph Samuelson whose
significance is highlighted in the Hall of Fame with a bronze bust,
outboard motors from the 1920's and rare photos of skiers from the past.
Collections / Archives:
The vast
collection includes memorabilia from the 1920's to the present; water
skis, ropes, handles, wetsuits, boat and motors, trophies, books, vintage
and modern day photographs and negatives, perpetual trophies, film and
video that numbers over 12,000 pieces. In addition to fascinating
displays, the Foundation has the most complete audio visual library and
resource center devoted exclusively to water skiing.
Educational Programs:
The Foundation offers educational and informational resources, including
extensive historical archives, that can be utilized by the public, private
agencies, schools, libraries, social organizations and many others. In
addition to extensive print, still film and video files on the sport of
water skiing, AWSEF itself, and through its affiliation with USA Water
Ski, can provide instructional and safety materials for virtually all
persons involved in water skiing and related water sports. The Foundation
also administers several key educational scholarship funds, making
financial assistance available to young persons within the water ski
community who qualify.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Many areas of the museum depend on the support of volunteers.
Opportunities are available in the following areas: collections care and
maintenance, tour conducting, filing and research, tourism promotion,
graphic design, creative writing, and special events. Individuals
interested can contact: AWSEF VOLUNTEERS. |
