AWSEF Hires Tracy Mattes As New Executive Director

Tracy MattesThe American Water Ski Educational Foundation recently welcomed Tracy Mattes as its new executive director. Mattes, taking over for the retiring Carole Lowe, began her new position with the AWSEF on April 17.

Mattes, 43, most recently served as the executive director of global programs for the World Olympians Association. The WOA is considered the fourth pillar of the International Olympic Committee, and represents all of nearly 100,000 Olympians around the world who have competed in an Olympic Games. “I hope to be able to use my background with the Olympic family to help the AWSEF get to the next level,” Mattes says. “I really believe there is a lot of potential for the organization and I am really excited about the possibilities that lay ahead.”

Mattes earned her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Arizona State University in 1992 and her master’s degree in business administration from the International University of Monaco in 2006. Prior to working for the WOA, Mattes worked in television news production at NBC affiliates in Atlanta, Ga., Austin, Texas, and Tampa, Fla., before starting her own consulting firm – 5 Rings Consulting, Inc. – specializing in marketing, business development and fundraising. She also is a retired professional track and field athlete as well as a humanitarian activist. In 2002 she was inducted into the Track & Field Hall of Fame and in 2009 she was inducted into the World Sport Humanitarian Hall of Fame.
