Six Water Skiers Receive AWSEF Scholarships - 2007POLK CITY, Fla. - The American Water Ski Educational Foundation’s Scholarship & Financial Aid Committee has announced the awarding of six college scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each. Elizabeth B Flaherty of Black Creek, Wis., was awarded the Tim Olson Memorial Scholarship. A senior at the University of Wisconsin, Flaherty has served as president of the Chain Skimmers Water Ski Team since 2004. She also is a member of the University of Wisconsin's water ski and wakeboard team. The Barbara Bolding/Jim Grew Scholarship was awarded to Tyne Kaiser of West Sale, Wis. A sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Kaiser is involved with the junior programs in her club, giving individual instruction to the new members. She also worked with the water ski team at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Jazmine Mosley of Hoover, Ala., received the Southern Region/Elmer Stailing Scholarship. A junior at the University of Alabama. Mosley is a regular judge, assistant scorer and safety coordinator. She has coached junior development clinics and aspires to be a level 2 coach by the end of the summer. The Jean Downes Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Kerri Lee of Zachary, La. A senior at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Lee is a Pan American judge, a senior scorer and state safety director. She is a member of the Louisiana-Lafayette water ski team and is an active member of two water ski clubs. The Correct Craft Scholarship was awarded to Cale Burdick of Danville, Ind. A senior at Purdue University, Burdick is a regular jump judge and a state safety director. He has served as vice president and tournament director of the Purdue Alumni Tournament and as coach of the Indiana and Kansas Junior Development Clinics. The MasterCraft Scholarship was awarded to Lindsey Stoil of Nekoosa, Wis. A senior at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Stoil has been a member of the Shermalot and Badgerland show ski teams and has served on various committees. The AWSEF Scholarship Fund is supported by contributions from individuals, corporations and the annual fund-raising events. The Tim Olson Memorial established in 2002 and Jean Downes Memorial established in 2005 are sponsored in part by endowment funds set up by the family. The Correct Craft and MasterCraft scholarships are funded by the respective companies. The Barbara Bolding/Jim Grew Scholarship is funded by Jim Grew. The Elmer Stailing/Southern Region Scholarship by the Southern Region, and all other scholarships are funded by the American Water Ski Educational Foundation. The American Water Ski Educational Foundation, (AWSEF), parent organization of the Water Ski Hall of Fame and Museum, was founded in 1968 as a non-profit foundation dedicated to the preservation of the traditions of one of America’s most popular family recreational activities and to the encouragement of and education in the safe enjoyment of waterskiing. Applicants must be incoming sophomore through senior level, full-time students at a two-or four-year accredited college; an active member of the USA Water Ski; and a United States Citizen.
